Few lawyers have the experience that Sjoerd Rutten has as a lawyer in litigating and arbitrating construction-related disputes. Over more than 25 years, he has built a tremendous reputation for avoiding, managing, controlling and resolving disputes. Players in the sector turn to him in the event of (impending) disputes with a major commercial or principled interest. Sjoerd also uses his practical knowledge and experience in the courtroom to draft solid construction-related contracts.

He represents clients in arbitrations before, among others, the Council of Arbitration in Construction Disputes and in proceedings before the civil courts. He also acts as a court-appointed expert and is regularly asked for a second opinion. He regularly acts himself as an arbitrator at the Netherlands Arbitration Institute and at Unum. He is a member of the editorial board of the Tijdschrift voor Bouwrecht. Sjoerd has several books and publications in his field to his name and teaches at various institutes.

He is the go-to person for contentious cases. He can judge when to litigate and when to seek other options. He has a bag full of tricks, doesn’t spare the opponents, and is able to surprise and ambush them. He is a good one to have in a fight.” He is described as a "brilliant lawyer" by a source, who adds: "He has a sharp mind."
